Summer means Sangria. There is nothing like quenching your thirst with a fruity sangria on a hot summer day. Just in time for the sunshine we are bringing you our version of a great Portuguese inspired sangria. Portuguese Sangria is perfect for enjoying on a nice hot summer day outside or served to guests as an daytime or evening cocktail. Our version combines the sangria with some carbonated Portuguese passion fruit juice, making this a uniquely flavored drink your guests will be surely inquiring about how to make after trying.
*Makes 2 Pitchers*
Ingredients:
2 750 ml bottles of chilled Portuguese dry red wine (If you can’t find Portuguese wine try some Apothic Red. Can also be substituted with dry white wine, preferably Portuguese Vinho Verde)
2 cans Sumol carbonated passion fruit juice (If you can’t find this locally at a Portuguese market you can easily get some here on Amazon. You can also just as easily substitute this with 2 cups chilled orange or grapefruit juice. If making with these add some club soda just before serving if you prefer your sangria to be carbonated.)
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup of brandy
1 bunch red grapes or 1 bunch white grapes
1 sliced orange
1 sliced lemon
1 sliced lime
Directions:
1)Add the ice to the pitcher.
2)Add the liquids to the pitcher.
3)Finally, add the fruits and sugar into the mixture. Mix it well with a spoon.
4)Let it sit for at least 10 to 15 minutes to chill. *For best results, leave in the fridge for 4 to 8 hours for the sangria to fully absorb the flavors of the fruits. If doing so, pour the cans of passion fruit juice in once it has finished resting to fully enjoy the sparkly carbonation*
5)Serve.
