Portuguese pickled onions are probably one of the most unique and traditional dishes that Portuguese food has to offer. Considering the Portuguese are a culture which uses all the ingredients possible and wastes nothing when making food, we were always going to have a way to preserve our vegetables. I have enjoyed these delicious pickled treats many times and I can remember whenever my grandparents would have them already made ready to enjoy. Blade Meat Sandwich

Blade meat sandwiches are a staple of Portuguese eating and are probably one of my favorite sandwiches around. The blade meat we are going to use comes already marinated and can easily be found at most local Portuguese food markets. The bursting flavor of the garlic along with some fresh red peppers gives the sandwich unbelievable flavor. The tender blade meat combined with a toasty Portuguese bread roll makes for a sandwich that is truly delicious. It is the popular and traditional version of Portuguese style Pears in Port wine. It uses the fruity flavors of the pear with the traditional and rich flavor of the port wine to make an awesome and healthy dessert that can be made quickly and is sure to impress. The deep red color of the pear and port wine in combination is perfect in conjunction with some delicious white vanilla ice cream.

Simple and Easy Portuguese Style Chourico and Lima Bean Soup

Chourico and Lima bean soup dish. One of the things I love about this recipe is how easy it is. This is a very hearty soup and it’s perfect to come home to because its all done in a slow cooker. I love to make this at home because is quick and easy to start in the morning and when you get home from work you have a great smelling meal and a hearty soup that eats more like a stew. For this recipe I used regular hot Portuguese chourico but I also like to use chourico mouro which is a much fattier chourico and tends to be better in soups.
